Matilda’s Chocolate Cake Recipe


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoons baking soda
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 1 teaspoon instant coffee

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 150°C (300°F). Grease and flour two 9-inch round baking pans.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add the eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Dissolve the instant coffee in the hot water and stir it into the batter until well combined.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
  8. Once the cakes have cooled, they are ready to be frosted according to your preference.
